‘Fair winds and following seas’ for Sailing Week and the royal visit
We bring you the highlights of Antigua Sailing Week – which featured a performance by one of the Caribbean’s hottest reggae stars – and a visit by Prince Edward and Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, feature in issue 8 of our newsletter. Protecting our Earth and all of us who call it home is at the core of Moon Gate’s ethos. Antigua and Barbuda received the honour of hosting the the Green Climate Fund’s Global summit. Also in this edition is the very latest on building developments at Moon Gate Hotel & Spa, plus what to look forward to in the action-packed weeks ahead, like the annual Sports Fishing Tournament and Antigua Carnival 2022 all this – in Issue 8 of our Moon Gate newsletter.
Lay Day fun and games on Pigeon Point Beach at Antigua Sailing Week
Sprits were high, the winds pervasive and the shoreside activities every bit as electrifying as the races when Antigua Sailing Week returned after a two-year hiatus.
Organisers pulled out all the stops to ensure the Caribbean’s longest-running regatta went off with a bang. The 2022 overall winner was the indomitable King 40 Blitz team from the US Virgin Islands, headed by Peter Corr, who took home the coveted Lord Nelson Trophy.
Everyone got some well-deserved respite during the traditional Lay Day beach bash on Pigeon Point Beach, which was replete with barbecues, beers and a bevy of games including a stand-up paddle board rally and tug o’ war.
We are excited that building developments at Moon Gate Hotel & Spa work continues apace with foundations now being prepared for the fourth of seven buildings, and work remains on track for Moon Gate’s completion in the second quarter of next year. Issue 8 of our newsletter includes a full summary of progress on building developments at Moon Gate Hotel & Spa site.
Finally, no reference to the country’s social scene would be complete without a mention of Carnival – slated to kick off once again on July 27th 2022. We will bring you full details in subsequent editions, but suffice to say there is already a packed itinerary of pre-Carnival parties and fetes to get you in the mood for what has long been dubbed the ‘Caribbean’s greatest summer festival’. Can we get a drum roll please.
